Since buying a spiralizer, my passion for healthy eating has sized greater than ever before. In 2012 I full heartedly converted to being Paleo– eating like a caveman six days a week. The seventh day I typically indulge in a cheat meal. How did I survive the last four years without a spiralizer? At the time of my Paleo conversion, I was living on a tiny island clueless to the latest and greatest. I was a bit isolated in that many items were difficult to find on island and items shipped was untimely. A spiralizer just didn’t fit in my simple, slower-paced life.
Looking back at my modern Japanese style kitchen, adding another gadget was not an option. I had very limited counter space and cupboard space. Keeping organized and using the bare minimum was key to Japanese living. My kitchen offered a microwave oven with Japanese buttons that fit a maximum size 9.5 Inch baking dish. My property manager kindly supplied me with an English translation cheat sheet of the microwave buttons. I rarely baked because of how small the oven was. I had a tiny fish oven that I also rarely used. A fire hazard indeed because of the open flame rim that wrapped around the top of the oven. The very first night I moved in, I burnt my food to flames causing an uproar of smoke to consume the apartment. Not the best first impression to my new neighbors! I was fortunate enough to possess a dishwasher that washed an entire load of a few small plates, a couple of glasses, and some silverware! Using the dishwasher was pointless. Although my Japanese kitchen had the best gas stove. This stove came with a timer, a motion sensor, and an automatic stove shut-off. Overcooking food was impossible. The refrigerator was awesome because of all the different compartments. The top half was all fridge with a door. Below the fridge was two side by side drawers. One drawer had an automatic ice maker, and the other drawer was a mini freezer. Below the two side by side drawers was a large freezer drawer. Below the freezer drawer was a large fridge drawer. The entire refrigerator was smaller than a standard American fridge, yet it fit perfectly for both my husband and I.
Despite the many factors to my lack of spiralizer knowledge, I now see the light. I’m Inspiralized! I started small with the Veggetti from Amazon for $15. Since I love spiralizing veggies so much I’m upgrading to the popular 3-blade Paderno Spiralizer for $30.
